A Dog's Purpose 2 - Chip's Incredible Journey - Comedy Sketch
Logline: When Chip, Charlie's dog, tragically passes away his soul moves on to another body, but not the way you might think.
A green screen appears - THE FOLLOWING HAS BEEN APPROVED FOR ALL AUDIENCES
FADE IN:
EXT. FRONT YARD - DAY
CHARLIE and his wife LINDA are playing ball with an old lab named CHIP. Chip struggles to keep up and falls down.
CHIP (V.O.)
What was the purpose of my life? Why was I brought into Charlie’s
life and why must I leave so soon? They run over to Chip.
CHARLIE
Chip! It’s okay buddy, you can let go.
Charlie and Linda cry as Chip’s eyes glimmer one last time before passing away.
FROM THE SAME PRODUCTION COMPANY THAT BROUGHT YOU A DOG’S PURPOSE.
INT. LIVING ROOM - DAY
A tarantula appears under a coffee table. Charlie and Linda are curled up on the couch crying.
CHIP (V.O.)
And then it happened! I was back!
But wait a minute, why do I have eight legs?
The spider, Chip, reveals himself on the edge of the couch.
CHIP (V.O.)
I couldn’t believe it! There they
were!
Linda sees the spider and jumps up.
LINDA
Holly shit! Charlie, look!
CHARLIE
(sighs)
I’ve got this. Charlie takes his shoe off.
CHIP (V.O.)
Wait, it’s me! Chip!
Charlie kills Chip with his shoe. INTRODUCES CHIP’S INCREDIBLE JOURNEY
INT. KITCHEN - DAY
Linda looks out the window to the front yard where they played with Chip.
CHIP (V.O.)
Like another miracle though, I came
back! Again!
Chip, now a rattlesnake, slithers into the kitchen.
CHIP (V.O.)
I didn’t know what was happening to
me, but I knew it had something to do with my purpose.
Chip moves around the kitchen until she sees him. Charlie runs in. They freak out and try to kill him with a broom.
INT. FRONT DOOR - DAY
Linda opens the front door to grab the pizza they ordered and Chip, a skunk, runs into the house.
LINDA
Jesus! Yuck!
Chip takes over the couch and leans his head to the side like a dog.
CHIP (V.O.)
Another pizza this week? Maybe my
purpose was to look over their bad eating habits?
Charlie grabs a shovel.
A ROLLERCOASTER OF EMOTIONS AS CHIP TRIES TO FIND HIS PURPOSE OVER AND OVER AGAIN
INT. BEDROOM - NIGHT
Charlie and Linda come home from a night out and flick on the lights. They see Chip as an alligator on their bed. They scream.
CHIP (V.O.)
But no matter what.
A guy from Animal Control comes in to sedate Chip and drags him out of the room.
CHIP (V.O.)
I was never going to give up!
INT. LIVING ROOM - NIGHT
Charlie sits on the couch, head in hands, he misses Chip. Suddenly Chip, as his dog self but with rabies, comes over. Charlie sits up straight, eying the dog intensely.
CHARLIE
Is that...?
Chip stares calmly for a second with his big doggy eyes but then snarls at him, foaming at the mouth and Charlie runs out of the room screaming.
COMING THIS AUGUST
EXT. FRONT ENTRY WAY - DAY
Charlie and Linda walk up to the front door to see a bear on the front porch. His mouth holds a tennis ball. The same ball they would play with when Chip was a dog.
CHARLIE
Oh shit!
LINDA
Oh my god, run!
Linda starts running to the car but Charlie pauses.
CHIP (V.O.) Because one day, he would realize it was me.
CHARLIE
Wait a minute.
Light glazes over Chip’s bear eyes and Charlie just knows.
CHARLIE (CONT'D)
Chip? Is that you?
In slow motion Charlie runs to the bear to embrace.
LINDA
Charlie! Don’t go near it!
Chip looks hopeful.
CHIP (V.O.)
My purpose is and always will be to
come back to YOU Charlie.
Chip suddenly opens his giant mouth like he’s about to attack, the ball falls down as Charlie draws closer for a hug. Chip begins to attack Charlie.
CHIP (V.O.)
Oh no! What am I doing?! Is this
how I show love now?!
